As Canadian astronaut, and commander of the International Space Station, Chris Hadfield released this video singing David Bowie’s iconic “Space Oddity” prior to his departure from the station today.
I’ll admit, I’ve never really been a big David Bowie fan. His music was a little too “out there” for me.
Chris Hadfield Singing Space Oddity Gives It New Appeal
Had this been the video for the Bowie song back in the 80′s when I was watching Video Hits, I may have been a bigger fan.
It’s pretty cool seeing a real astronaut, singing a song about space while he’s actually floating around in a space station looking down on our little blue planet don’t you think?
Chris Is An International (Internet) Star
As the first Canadian to lead the International Space Station, Chris Hadfield has become quite an internet star since arriving in December.
He currently has over 800,000 Twitter followers, and he has a number of videos on YouTube with millions of views all told.
I read recently in our local paper how he even interacted with the local students on a school project.
Technology has certainly come a long way.
I can remember our teacher wheeling in the big cart with a TV on it so we could watch a space shuttle launch, but that doesn’t quite compare to talking in real time to Chris Hadfield while he’s floating in orbit in the International Space Station.
My son recently told me he’d like to go on a rocket into space, and with the progress being made in the last few years maybe we’ll be able to make that dream a reality for him.
I’d love to experience weightlessness, and it would be very cool to take a tour of the ISS guided by Chris Hadfield or one of the other astronauts.
It’s pretty obvious to me that Chris is a guy that’s following his passions and dreams and living life on his terms.
It’s people like him that inspire me to do the same.
